How it all started:
Greensboro, North Carolina 1960
Known for the Greensboro 4 who were all young African-American students that led the sit-ins in a segregated establishment
On February 1, 1960 the four students sat in a Woolworth’s restaurant where they sat until they were served
The owner would not serve the young men due to his own policy which was to only serve whites
Since they were denied service the students would not move from their seats and were also not arrested due to the nature that there was no threat or endangerment of others
Their message was to get rid of segregation policies across the country
Sit-ins Spread Nationwide

By February 5, 300 students joined the protest at Woolworth’s and other establishments in Greensboro
This paralyzed any business in the town that would only serve whites eventually leading the owners to serve all races due to the amount of money they were losing
By the end of March, the movement was present in 33 cities and 13 states
By mid July almost all segregated establishments changed their policies allowing all races to eat together and giving a victory to the Greensboro 4 and African-Americans across the nation
